2013 Acura TL will Likely See Few Changes

2013-acura-tl-frontside-angle-image1
The 2013 Acura TL will likely see few changes following the model’s substantial freshening for 2012. As reported by an online automotive magazine “Automotive News”, the 2013 Acura TL will be chosen as well by Acura to receive a gas- electric option. The 2013 Acura TL flagship is reported to be no longer use the rear drive V-8 version.

The 2013 Acura TL design which is based on the Honda Accord mid- sized sedan this year received a major fascia change. The base 2013 Acura TL V6 will be available with Honda’s large- car hybrid system as an option while a new cylinder deactivation system and stop-start ignition will be completed the V6 which is now lighter than its predecessor. 2013 Acura TL-instrument-panel

Inside, 2013 Acura TL cabin generally presents well, with rich-feeling leather and soft dash and door surfaces; some hard plastics are disappointing, but most are kept out of direct sight. A discreetly placed tray holds an MP3 player out of sight while connected to the standard USB port. Cabin isolation is not the 2013 Acura TL strong suit.

2013 Acura TL-interior-design

In particular, more road and tire roar make it into the 2013 Acura TL interior than is expected for the class. Noise levels are not intrusive, but the 2013 Acura TL isn’t particularly serene either; either engine is virtually silent at cruise. The 2013 Acura TL instrument panel features large and legible main gauges.

2013 Acura TL-rear seat-design

The center stack and steering wheel have an excessive number of buttons, particularly with the Technology or Advance Packages. The 2013 Acura TL navigation screen in the Technology and Advance Packages appears bright even in changing ambient light conditions, and its high placement doesn’t distract from the road.

2013 Acura TL-taillights rear bumper-design

The 2013 Acura TL so equipped use an “interface dial” to access these systems, it’s not as complicated as some European premium cars, but a touch screen would probably make things simpler. This 2013 Acura TL sedan is offered in Base and SH-AWD (for Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) versions, each with a V6 engine while the base versions are front-wheel drive and are fitted with a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter engine.

2013 Acura TL-side angle-view

The 2013 Acura TL SH-AWD uses a 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 and also receives a sport suspension. Standard on all 2013 Acura TL is a 6-speed automatic transmission while a 6-speed manual is only offered on SH-AWD models equipped with the optional Technology Package. 2013 Acura TL safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags.

2013 Acura TL-engine-design

Standard features include leather upholstery with heated front seats, a sunroof, and a wireless cell-phone link. The Technology Package, which is priced as a separate model, includes a Acura navigation system with real-time traffic and weather alerts and an up level audio system. The Advance Package, again priced as a separate model, includes blind-spot alert, ventilated front seats and larger wheels (18-inch on the Base and 19-inch on the 2013 Acura TL SH-AWD).

Driving Impression 2013 Acura TL

Because of the lighter transmission, the 2013 Acura TL specs weighs 88 lb less overall, and front/rear weight distribution improves from 59/41 to 58/42. Any Acura TL is quite nimble and fun to drive, but front-drive models under steer more than their all-wheel-drive siblings in spirited driving and the electric-power-steering system requires low effort in low-speed situations, such as parking.

2013 Acura TL-rearside angle-view

Effort increases as speed rises, but the 2013 Acura TL never feels heavy or cumbersome. The 2013 Acura TL SH-AWD deserves special praise for its stability in nearly any driving condition meanwhile a large brakes deliver impressive stopping control.

All-New 2013 Acura RDX Joins Acura Line-up of IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Vehicles

Acura_logo_2972
The all-new 2013 Acura RDX has received the highest possible safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting vehicle occupants involved in front, side and rear crashes, plus rollover performance based on ratings in the Institute's tests.

The all-new 2013 RDX, along with the 2012 TL, MDX, and TSX sedan and Sport Wagon, have all earned IIHS 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK ratings and the highest possible score of GOOD in all four Institute tests, including the rigorous roof-strength test.

For 2013, a revised 4-wheel disc brake system on the RDX teams with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Brake Assist to further enhance safety and greater driver control. To meet the federal government's new standard (FMVSS 216) for roof crush resistance, the RDX body incorporates several new structural enhancements in the roof and side pillar areas.

All models in the current Acura line up utilize the Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) body structure. ACE is an exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment.

Standard safety equipment on all Acura models includes Vehicle Stability Assist(TM) (VSA®) with traction control, ABS, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags with passenger side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seats with integrated active head restraints, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

Acura's "Safety Through Innovation" initiative is based on the brand's commitment to leadership in safety-- and excellent safety is a paramount element in every new vehicle that Acura builds. The initiative's goal is for all Acura models to provide a high level of safety regardless of size or price of the vehicle.

Made for 'The Avengers,' Acura's movie car concept debuted in Detroit

Bilde
Does that cool, red -- matches Iron Man's suit -- convertible that Tony Stark and Bruce Banner drive off in at the end of “The Avengers” look familiar to you?

You might have seen a similar car at the Detroit auto show. The movie car is a version of Acura’s NSX concept, not due out for a few years – and David Undercoffler, the auto critic for the Los Angeles Times, recently detailed how the car came to be – and how it ended up in the blockbuster superhero movie.

Since the NSX’s debut for the movie, bloggers and car enthusiasts have had fun posting photos and speculating about the concept car.

According to Undercoffler:

The project began in June 2001, when Dave Marek, the company’s director of design, got the final pages of “The Avengers” script and was told to design a mock-up. But Acura didn’t officially unveil the NSX concept until the Detroit auto show.

The car in the film is a convertible, but the official concept is a coupe, Undercoffler reports.

The auto critic also points out that the movie car has the license plate “Stark 33” because Robert Downy Jr.’s favorite number is 33.

MotorAuthority’s Viknesh Vijayenthiran reports that in addition to the NSX, Acura also had a S.H.I.E.L.D.-enhanced MDX at this year’s New York auto show. S.H.I.E.L.D., of course, is the fictional government agency from the movie. Vijayenthiran also reports that the concept is due in showrooms in about three years.

One online discussion thread shows photos of the movie car with a mock-up window sticker, “2012 Stark Industries Super Car,” that puts city mileage at 234 and highway mileage at 302. (Yeah, it's movie magic.)

The sticker also says the car comes fully equipped with a palm-scan ID steering wheel, enviro-clone projected hologram of surroundings, self-detonating recon drone and night-vision HUD windshield. It lists the total price as $9,229,000, including tax and registration and other fees.

Yes, even superheros pay taxes.

Acura ILX uses robot research to limit skids

2013acurailxfrontthreequartersx-wide-community
Honda's robotics research leads to more-stable vehicles.

The automaker has drawn from the superfast balancing system it uses to keep its experimental humanoid robots from toppling as they walk for use in a stability system on the new, 2013 Acura ILX compact sedan.

The ILX, loosely based on the Honda Civic, goes on sale May 22, starting at $26,795.

The "face" of Honda's humanoid robotics research is a human-acting robot Honda calls Asimo. Honda foresees a time when Asimo and its ilk will be used as

Honda via Wieck

"companions" to people who'd otherwise need assisted living or live-in human helpers.

Asimo walks like a person, lifting its legs one at a time and bending at the knee, and has articulated arms and hands so it can, for example, open a jar of apple butter or a bottle of sports drink for someone whose grip or arm strength is limited.

First time you see Asimo demonstrated, you'll swear there's a person inside making it move like that. Asimo and other industrial robots show up now and then at robot exhibitions around the country; worth a visit.

The robotics-inspired vehicle stability, or anti-skid, system will, Acura says, ensure "more responsive handling under icy or slippery conditions. The concept for this additional algorithm is based on patented knowledge gained from humanoid robotics research and development work."

Stability systems work by comparing what the driver intends, based largely on the steering wheel position, with what the car's actually doing. If it's not pointed as it should be, stability systems lightly apply the brakes on individual wheels to pivot the car into proper line.

The robotics-derived system speeds up the ability of the software to judge what the driver intends, making the whole anti-skid system work faster.
